B&B to B&B walking holidays
Starting from Maison Caramel, you walk each day self-guided at your own pace through beautiful alpine meadows, villages and forests to one of the charming alpine B&B’s we’ve chosen along the way.
Inn to Inn (B&B to B&B) guided or self-guided circular walks
Soak up the amazing alpine scenery while travelling at your own pace from B&B to B&B on one of our self-guided walking breaks. Alternatively, let our qualified mountain guide show you the way and share his knowledge of the local culture and wildlife. Starting from either Maison Caramel or La Ferme Blanche, you walk each day to a handpicked bed and breakfast / chambres d'hotes. We transport your luggage and, for self-guided walkers provide walking maps, detailed walking notes, and packed lunches.
Each night you stay at a lovely alpine B&B and enjoy delicious evening meals with a regional flavour. Set off the next day when you’re ready, and take your time soaking up the stunning mountain scenery and exploring the little farming villages and hamlets you’ll pass on the way. We plan the walks so that you typically arrive in the mid to late afternoon, allowing you plenty of time to freshen up and have a look around before dinner.
Our walking holidays have no fixed start date, although availability may be more restricted during the high season in July and August. You can do a 3 night short break walking holiday, or take your time and follow one of our 5, 7 or 10 night itineraries. In terms of level of difficulty, the intineraries vary from grade 2 to 4 (see our grading system below).
Self-guided prices range from 395€pp for 3 nights, to 965€pp for 10 nights, based on a minimum of two people sharing a room. The price includes breakfast, picnic lunch, accommodation and a three course evening meal each evening (wine is extra in some B&B's). Dogs are 15€ per night. Extra nights can be added in the B&B of your choice subject to availability and a supplement.
Alpine villages, meadows and the Vanoise national park*
5 nights, June to early October (grades 3 & 4)
Starting point: Maison Caramel, Landry (1st night here)
Day 1 (6-8 hours): the day starts with a steep climb up the hillside following wooded mule tracks. You then follow the contours of the mountain crossing beautiful wild flower meadows with views of Mont Blanc and passing through several unspoilt farming villages. After a few hours, you descend down forest tracks, cross the river Isere and make your way up to your B&B.
Day 2 (3-5 hours): today's shorter walk takes you through more quaint alpine villages and along part of the regional walking trail "Tour de Haute Tarentaise", following it as it twists and turns around the mountain along to picturesque village of le Miroir perched on the hillside with stunning views of the surrounding mountain ranges and glaciers. You stay in the next village along, but can choose to eat either in the B&B or in the delightful Chez Merie restaurant (25€ supplement pp).
Day 3 (6-8 hours): you have a choice of two starts to your route today, either a steep climb up to 2100m to follow a track around the Rocher de Pierre d'Arbines, or a short climb and then a more leisurely walk along meadow and forest tracks to the hamlet of le Monal. You then carry on through beautiful mountain scenery to your B&B in the resort village of Tignes Les Brevieres.
Day 4 (8-10 hours): your last day is a hard one, but well worth the effort for the experience of walking up into the Vanoise National Park, one of Europe's largest and a haven for wildlife. After a short transfer in the morning, you join the GR5, a national footpath crossing from side of France to the other, and follow it through the Vanoise. You can either spend the night in a mountain refuge and walk back down to Maison Caramel the next day, or be picked up and brought back to the B&B for your last night.
Cost: self-guided 595€ per person (based on a minimum of two people sharing a room). Guided 995€ per person (based on a minimum group size of four).
The price includes return station transfers (from Landry, Aime or Bourg Saint Maurice), breakfast, picnic lunch, accommodation and a three course evening meal each evening (wine is extra in some B&B's). Extra nights can be added subject to availability and a supplement.
*We amend this route if you are walking with your dog as they are not allowed in the centre of the national park.
